Visit Often for Updates, Assignments, Reminders.

August 25, 2008

Greetings 2008-09 MAT interns,

Welcome to Planet Gnosis, a cyberweb devoted to the pursuit of learning, the sharing of knowledge, and the publication of information related to teaching and education. You have arrived at your class website for CIED 5022, Classroom Management Concepts, a satellite of Planet Gnosis and a dynamic, open-access Internet project designed to support and enhance your learning experience this semester.

As teachers, one of our primary goals is to create a learning environment that engages every one of our students. This web can help you acquire timely information as you work toward achieving that goal. It will also be a valuable point of contact for scheduling updates, homework assignments, and timely reminders of your academic responsibilities.

Notice the links on the left sidebar. Your Classroom Management Concepts web features a homepage, your syllabus, the semester calendar, and an archive for posts that are retired from this and other pages on the web. Click on any of the page titles to take you to that cyber location. You will find printable versions of the fall 2008 syllabus and calendar on the appropriate pages.

The Reading Room will display your Bio Poems and your contributions to the Post & Ponder Discussion Thread. These two sections will grow as we progress through the semester. Learning Resources provides links to other sites and resources to support and enhance class topics.

A Metaphorical Journey
of the Mind and Spirit.

Planet Gnosis exists in the larger sphere of CornDancer, an online magazine, journal, and developmental cyberweb devoted to the mind and spirit. CornDancer was launched in 2000. My participation began in 2002 with the creation of Planet Vox, the "home" system of several planetary participants, including Planet IEP, Planet Deutsch, Planet Russkii, Planet Clio, and Planet Psi. Some remain active, while others are retired, but all are available to curious travelers. Most are linked on the left sidebar.

Implosions, black holes, and catastrophic meteoric collisions threaten any solar system, and so it has been with Planet Vox, but a new planet was birthed in 2004: Planet Gnosis. Planet VOX Planet Clio survived the cataclysm to remain active in the teaching and learning of history. Planet Deutsch continues to provide information about German language and culture to our eclectic band of readers. Planet IEP survived, but floats in stately repose for this age. Planet X exists outside our galaxy, but the mysterious writer inhabiting the mythical globe lures readers into an alternate reality of thought and meditation.

If you decide to explore other galactic globes, you will find wonders for the eye, music for the ears, and language for the mind. Photo of the Week introduces readers to the visual wonders of Arkansas and its near neighbors. LitTunes joins melody to text to bring a lilt into the literary canon. Crow's Cottage houses contemporary musings on "life and life only."

I invite you to suit up and take a ride through the digital wonderland of Planet Gnosis and corndancer.com.

Let's have a great semester!

Dr. FAB
