Extra Credit.

Take advantage of these next two weeks to attend some extra-curricular activities. Not only do these help your listening skills and increase your cultural awareness, but they also give you an opportunity to write a report and get extra credit. The requirements are that the activity be a speaking event and that you turn in a one-page report the following day.

Note Taking.

We will continue to practice the note taking activities. Some students do very well on this activity, but some of you need more practice. Key points to remember in taking notes include looking for the thesis statement in the introduction and deciding the pattern of organization. If it's classification, you can organize your notes by categories. If it is comparison, you can organize your notes into similarities, differences, or both. The next two readings (Tasks 6 and 13) have sub-headings, so you can use these divisions to organize your notes. You will have a participation activity for each of these readings, so take good notes!
