Budget is a code word for a short question
that’s not so simple as its brevity might imply:
How much is it going to cost?
A business owner worth her salt will look past
the smoke and mirrors of proposals and recommendations
in search of one item of very special interest:
the bottom line.
Finding a bottom line that sticks after the smoke has cleared
is rare, but not impossible.
Computer projects, like construction jobs,
are notorious for their mission creep.
Technology consultants,
either by shrewd design or airhead ignorance,
are prone to underestimate.
The truth is, budgeting accurately is hard work.
It demands a sense of thoroughness
that some are just not willing to muster.
