Pine Buff, Arkansas
As in many, perhaps even most, championship football games, the final result is determined by defense. Such was the case in the recent Arkansas Class 6A Championship game between Pine Bluff High School and Greenwood High School.
Both teams ran onto the field with perfect 12 and 0 records. After four hard-fought quarters between two fine teams, Pine Bluff emerged the winner. In the waning moments of the fourth quarter with Greenwood pushing for the end zone, the Pine Bluff defense forced a punt and the offense never gave the ball back to Greenwood.
The final score was 28-21. All of the points were scored in the first half. In the second half, two great defenses duked it out.
