Shane Hampton T O P I C : Blurting OutShane Poses the Question. . . .September 14, 2007How does a teacher go about handling students who have trouble blurting out? Jazmin Carranza answers. . . .September 27, 2007During the in-service week at L------ Jr. High, we had a guest speaker who gave great advice about students that blurt out answers. He said to give this student a triangle made out of paper, and inform the child that every time he or she blurts out, one of the corners of the triangle will be ripped of. When all three corners are removed, he or she will receive a consequence. Do not tell the student what the consequence will be until all the corners are taken off. This method is more effective if the student does not know what the discipline action will be. I have not tried this yet, but I have heard from other teachers that this method works.
