I chose a figure to be my MC logo because, although I would love to be able to draw, I am currently not an artist. In fact, stick people tend to represent a challenge, but with the glorious help of the Internet, I was able to find exactly what I had in mind.

One of my favorite toys as a child was the kaleidoscope. I would spend hours and hours holding it up to the light and watching all the colors and shapes manifest themselves into wonderful pictures. I thought that the kaleidoscope would be the perfect logo because not only did it have a special meaning for me, but it also does an excellent job conveying what multicultural education is all about.

The different shapes and colors are an easy representation of different kinds of people in general. Every single person, no matter what their background, is a different shape and size. The colors that are seen in the kaleidoscope image can be a peek into different realms of societies and cultures. It is also important to remember that not only it is important to recognize, acknowledge, and appreciate different cultures, societies, and sects of people, but also to remember that those people while they belong to a group are also individuals.

The kaleidoscope needs to be how the world looks at people: no matter the color or shape or size, the kaleidoscope brings it all together to make a pretty, design-shaped picture. I think that by showing students how differences can be appreciated through the kaleidoscope, it will broaden their own "scope" on the world and the people in it.

As Banks points out about the growing diversity in the classroom, multicultural education is a journey that students and teachers must make together, remembering all these aspects of individuals making up cultures, societies, and sects of people with newfound appreciation, knowledge, and acceptance.
