My MC Logo is a graphical representation of various concepts in physics. The reason I have chosen it as my multicultural logo is because the concepts represented in the image are done so in a manner independent of culture, which is how I think physics should be represented. The laws and principles that govern the natural do not depend upon the cultural lens through which they are viewed. Newton's law of gravity is the same for an Aboriginal in the Australian outback as it is for a physicist at MIT.

It is because of its independence of culture that I believe the image represents my perspective on multicultural education, or at least my perspective with respect to my field. It is not that I don't think culture is important (it most certainly is), I just don't think it is important when studying the laws of physics. In saying this, I don't want it to be taken as a downplay on multiculturalism. If anything, I think some science teachers have it easy when it comes to cultural issues. Sure, teaching a class of multi-cultural students can have its challenges, but it is believed that, if nothing else, science can be the unifier or common ground. Ultimately, this is what I want to represent by the image I have submitted.

With physics being something that is, at the end of the day, independent of culture, it will be a good place to address the third principle for teaching and learning in a multi-cultural society, which is intergroup relations. This is because, as stated above, the subject can act as a common ground for people of different cultures to meet. If nowhere else, students can find similarities between themselves and others through its study. Physics also provides a place where the principles of student learning and assessment can be addressed as well. Again, due to the common ground provided, equality in learning and assessing can be provided to the students.
