Week One
The Mansion of Learning
Has Many Floors.
Welcome, teacher candidates!
Welcome, MAT students, to your classroom website hosted on Planet Gnosis by CornDancer, a developmental website for the mind and spirit. The CornDancer philosophy views knowledge as universal and accessible, so our website is public.
Contributors to CornDancer also belong to a cyber community of lifelong learners, whose mission is to share the journey of intellectual and spiritual growth. As one of the founding members of CornDancer, I welcome you to our cyber community of lifelong learners!
The CMC homepage is your first point of contact for finding out vital information and key points that I wish to share with you about our class. Look at the links on the left sidebar of this page, and you'll see pathways to the many rooms in our intellectual mansion.
Pay attention to the Syllabus and Calendar links. They will take you to a word.doc, just in case you want to print this information.
During Week One, which begins on August 20, 2007, our class will meet for the first time. We will begin by building our own learning community, which will be devoted to exploring the concept of classroom management.
You may discover that content knowledge is not sufficient for maintaining an optimal learning environment for your students. We will explore the many ways that good classroom management helps you keep students engaged as active learners.
Your first assignment is to write a "Bio Poem" to publish on Planet Gnosis. The assignment is due no later than midnight, August 24.
Your second assignment is to read Chapter One, and then draw or design your mentor teacher's classroom for presentation at next Monday's class (August 27). Please remember to bring your drawing to class.
In addition to your textbook, I also expect you to bring your Pathwise booklet and your school's student handbook to class. We will use both of these as learning resources.
The Reading Room is another subsite of CMC. In this area of our learning mansion, you will find information to supplement and enhance instruction. The Bio Poems will also live here in cyber infinity.
In the Article Links room, you will find an EDOK example and explanation.
The Learning Resources floor of our CMC mansion includes a Discussion Thread (DT) room and a Web Links room. You will use the DT room for the "Post and Ponder" assignment. The Web Links room will contain electronic sources to help you with your classwork.
Good luck this semester, and welcome to Planet Gnosis!
