Test on Monday, November 4.
The Chapter Three test (Peter Gay's Weimar Culture is Monday, November 4. The chapter test will be an open-book test similar to your last test. We will discuss it in class as time permits, and I will provide you with some discussion questions to ponder and preview.
What about Those Papers?
Several of you have asked about the response paper, and I've asked you not to be concerned. This paper will be a journal project along with the summary and opinion papers, so I won't collect them until the last week of classes. They are basically an informal way for you to synthesize your thoughts about the topic. For the response paper, you may choose one of the videos that we've viewed in class and "respond" to it in any way you choose. For instance, you might address the theme (Caligari--the powerful influence that one human can exert upon another; Threepenny--proletariat versus bourgeois; Nosferatu--the power of love), or you may want to look at the cinemagraphic qualities, the acting, or the music. These videos will be available for viewing in Irby 209, the Language Lab. You can't check them out, but you can watch them in there.
Final Essay.
Your last essay is due on Monday, November 25. I suggest that your topic be the same as your speech topic. You've already done the research, so all you need to do is formalize the material in an informative essay format. What do you think about that?
