Hug, Shake and Sniff

This Afghan Hound is wearing Santa nicely at the annual “Dog Pictures with Santa” event at Margland Bed and Breakfast in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  Dogs of all sizes and shapes dragged their owners to the event — from a gigantic Great Dane to a diminutive Chihuahua.  There were hugs, hand-shakes, and a lot of butt-sniffing… with no untoward emotional outbursts.

Pine Buff, Arkansas

For the last several Christmas seasons and as many as I am able to do in the future as long as they will have me, I am the photographer for the annual “Dog Pictures with Santa” event sponsored by the Jefferson County Humane Society.  The event takes place at Margland Bed and Breakfast, operated by Wanda Bateman, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.  Wanda, a black-belt supporter of the Jefferson County Humane Society, donates her space despite the fun-laced pandemonium it creates for four hours once each year.  We raise a tidy sum for the JCHS, which is 100 percent dependent on cash and in-kind donations.  See 38 pictures from the event, one from each “setup.”  (Well a couple of more on some).

A Very Big 'Dog'

Yours truly is living proof that it is never too late to make certain you are on the up and up with Saint Nick.  Go forth and do ye likewise.

Thanks for looking.  And if you happen to be looking for a place to lend a helping hand this Christmas, your local humane society is a good place to start.

But Wait, There's More....
Across town, there is another group of people-friendly critters not quite as fortunate as the subjects of our portraits.  These dogs, like “Prancer” who you see here, are residents of the Pine Bluff Animal Shelter.  They have kitty friends there as well.  To the critter, they are looking for a “forever home.”  For those of us who provide “forever homes” to rescue pets, the rewards of these relationships are a daily doses of love and sloppy kisses.  Take a look at these critters at Weekly Grist for the Eyes and Mind and see how it is on “the other side of town” — and how you might be able to help.
