I tried to incorporate as many different aspects of multiculturalism as I could in my Logo. Different cultures are fascinating, and each one should be valued. I also believe that on a basic level, we all are human beings with the same emotions, and we can feel compassion and love towards each other. My goal as a teacher is to help students move beyond their learned prejudices and stereotypes and learn to appreciate and value everyone’s culture, not just their own. Teacher LearningIn order to teach each student, the teacher must first acknowledge that his/her students have many diverse and complex identities, and that the background and culture of the students will influence the way they will learn in class. Teachers must also try to understand and learn about their students and learn how best to teach to them. My depiction shows a collage of different ethnicities, races, environments, and intelligences that students have. These are just a few that teachers need to be able to identify and understand how it will affect their student in the classroom. Student LearningStudents should learn in the classrooms that people can work together. Even people who were brought up differently and hold different views on life can peaceably live together and work towards a common goal. As teachers we must model this behavior and help our students move past their own stereotypes and prejudices that are holding them back. Students should hold high expectations for both themselves and their classmates. My logo has a face with different colors, which symbolizes that everyone has the same opportunities and also that people, no matter what they look like, can all work together. Intergroup RelationsTeachers must not only work together and value differences, but also identify similarities that all people hold. To symbolize this, I put a peace sign on the forehead of the student. Everywhere in the world, people value peace, and this is one goal that we can all work together to fulfill. School Governance,
