A Kinder, Gentler Week.
We will concentrate on the vocabulary and exercises in your textbook this week, so no written homework from the text. Let's work on speaking and reading. You will have homework from the workbook for Wednesday, however, and the vocabulary test on Friday.
Please note that the workbook exercises are similar to what you practiced in the last chapter. In exercise A, you write the English equivalent and then show the spelling change. In exercise B, you fill in the blank with the missing word. This should NOT be a problem because you have had several similar exercises. Don't be lazy! In Exercise C, you have to write a complete sentence using the nouns and verbs in the example. That means you have to add the articles and any prepositions and also change the verb to the correct form. The last exercise is straight vocabulary. You name the food and give the article and plural form. I will also have Participation Quizzes so that you can earn a few more points this week.
E-mail Attachment
I sent out an Email tonight with the test answers in a Word attachment. Let me know if you don't receive it. Danke!
den 15. März bis
den 19. März.
On Monday we will continue practicing the exercises from the Gespräch und Wortschatz. On Wednesday, we'll practice the verbs with vowel changes, and on Friday, we'll talk about the dative case. You'll also have a vocabulary quiz on Friday.
Verbs with Vowel Changes.
You've already learned that German verbs have different endings each time you change the subject. In Chapter Three we will look at verbs that change spelling in the second and third person singular. This means that the vowel in the stem (root, base) of the verb will have a spelling change. For example, the verb sprechen will change form ich spreche to du sprichst and er, sie, es spricht. Notice that the endings are the same--st and t--but the stem (root, base) changes from sprech to sprich. We will look at several different vowel changes, but remember that they only change in the second and third person singular.
