April 2004
Final Exam
Monday, April 26,
2:00-4:00.
Here's the scoop on the final exam. Listening: ten questions about Grandmother Kramer's story. Vocabulary: five German states to identify, five fill-in-the-blank about reunification from a word bank, five definitions in German about reunification. Structure: five sentences to change to future tense, ten adjective endings of all sorts, five multiple choice genitive prepositions. Culture: five true/false questions about reunification and five true/false questions about German festivities. Lesen: two reading passages. The first one is about the good old days and has eight multiple choice questions. The second one is from the Lesetext section on Anecdotes and Stories and has ten multiple choice questions.
Writing: This is a take-home assignment that you will bring with you to the final. Vor und nach der Wende. Imagine that you are an East German after unification. Write a few sentences about your life before unification (vor der Wende), using the past tense and the present perfect tense, and a few sentences about your life after unification (nach der Wende), using the present tense. You may wish to write about daily activities, family life, and changes in society.
Don't forget that you can use a notecard for any important points that you would like to remember.

I found this one and like it because it groups words into lists: http://dict.tu-chemnitz.de/
Don't forget this translation site that Amanda sent me: http://w3.systranlinks.com/systran/cgi. I've already used it! If anyone else has an interesting site, please let me know.
